Creating Taxonomies

10/03/2026

Graph Modeling provides several methods for building and expanding taxonomies, ranging from manual curation to AI-assisted generation. While the Interactive Tutorials within the Graph Modeling UI offer a hands-on walkthrough for creating concept schemes and top concepts, this chapter summarizes the automated and semi-automated tools available for quick-starting or expanding your taxonomies.

The following tools are covered in this section:

  • Taxonomy Advisor: An LLM-based assistant that generates and suggests definitions and alternative for existing concepts by analyzing existing taxonomy metadata.

  • Taxonomy Builder: A generative tool that builds entire hierarchies from scratch or extends existing branches of your taxonomy tree. By providing an optional prompt, the LLM suggests a structured tree of concepts tailored to your specific domain.

  • DBpedia Autopopulation: A method for seeding your project using Linked Data. By mapping existing concepts to DBpedia, you can harvest established hierarchies and categories to rapidly expand your thesaurus with authoritative external data.
