Unlike standard OpenSearch clusters, OpenSearch Serverless does not accept adjustments to individual index settings, such as index.knn: true or to algorithm tuning blocks for NMSLIB or HNSW, at the index level. The serverless vector engine applies that configuration automatically.

When creating an index in an Amazon OpenSearch Serverless collection, the request payload must be reduced to the vector dimensions alone:
